China Clean Heating Platform News: In 2019, German thermal storage technology company Lumenion partnered with Swedish state-owned enterprise Vattenfall to successfully put into operation a 2.4 MWh steel thermal storage system in the Berlin district heating network. According to recent foreign media reports, Lumenion plans to build a new 40 MWh steel thermal storage system in 2020. Lumenion's thermal storage system uses steel metal as the heat storage medium. During heat storage, electricity heats the huge steel modules to a high temperature of 650℃ to achieve thermal energy storage. The stored heat can be used as industrial high-temperature steam, or for district heating or greenhouse heating.
