High-efficiency plate heat exchangers are implemented using different switching plates and assembly methods, and can be divided into single-flow, multi-flow, and mixed-flow types. The type should be selected according to process requirements. Generally, for media with a temperature difference more than 1.8 times the logarithmic mean temperature difference, multi-flow should be used. The suitable value for the inter-plate flow velocity is 0.3~0.5m/s. If the flow velocity is too low, double-flow or multi-flow should be used.

Unlike ordinary plate heat exchangers, the spiral baffle plate heat exchanger has shell-side baffles arranged in a spiral shape. This causes the shell-side medium to be propelled in a spiral and continuous rotation from the inlet to the outlet, changing the traditional transverse baffle flow method into a longitudinal spiral baffle flow method. The baffle channel is spiral, and there will be no flow "dead zone". Because the medium in the shell side of the heat exchanger presents a spiral plunger flow pattern, a velocity gradient is generated in the radial direction of the shell-side cross section, placing each heat transfer tube in the vortex of the heat transfer medium, increasing the radial turbulence of the fluid, which is conducive to flushing particles and sediments in the shell side and preventing fouling deposition.

Understanding the maintenance instructions for plate heat exchangers

Apart from necessary repairs under special circumstances, plate heat exchangers also require regular maintenance. Plate heat exchangers are easy to maintain and disassemble. Different methods can be used depending on the situation. If there is no leakage and the heat transfer system is not degraded, disassembly may not be necessary. Simply circulate a caustic soda solution through the equipment for several hours. If this is not feasible, and after disassembly, the fouling is not serious, then it is not necessary to remove the plates; simply rinse with water or clean with a soft brush.
